sam 'the man' OSMOW

Learn about how an Egyptian immigrant became a Canadian entrepreneur - sharing his passion for modern Mediterranean cuisine to over 215 locations across Canada and the United States.

In 1998, Sam Osmow left Egypt in search of a better life for his family. After working a series of odd jobs, he invested his savings into a small sub shop located in Streetsville Ont.

2001 - Osmow's IS BORN

The venture struggled, but one day, while cooking a traditional Middle Eastern meal, a loyal customer asked Sam for a taste. Their reaction sparked Sam’s “aha” moment.

Defying advice, Sam closed the sub shop, rebranded, and the first Osmow’s was born in 2001.

2003 Bread & Honey Festival

With the menu in place, the restaurant often struggled to make even $50 a day. But everything changed at the 2003 Bread & Honey Festival. After handing out free samples, the community embraced the bold flavours—and from that day forward, the lineups began.

From our signature shawarma wraps - filled with chicken, beef, lamb, falafel – including creating the original Signature Creations – ON THE ROCKS® and ON THE STICKS®, Osmow’s earned a loyal following with it's modern take on classic Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine.

NATIONAL SHAWARMA DAY

Osmow’s officially founded National Shawarma Day - October 15, 2020 - a nationally recognized celebration of the world's love for shawarma.

With strong head office support and ambitious franchisees - many who began as employees - Osmow’s thrives through true partnership, staying rooted in family while rapidly expanding across North America.
